Mountains of fun!

This past weekend we ventured up into the mountains for a fun filled family weekend at the cabin.  We rented a cabin up in Luray and spent the weekend with the in-laws.  Kayleigh had a great time getting so much attention from her grandparents and Uncle Mike and she thought it would be a great time to learn something new!  While playing on the floor she showed us that she can go from laying on her tummy to sitting  up! I see crawling in her very near future! Here are a few pictures from our trip:
Family photo from the deck of our cabin. Look at that view!

All smiles with her Grammy.

Flying baby!

Kayleigh loves her baths and her bath toys.

Rocking a mohawk and a smile.
My favorite pictures from Skyline Drive!
The other love of my life!

Can't wait to get all of these photos into Kayleigh's scrapbook! And on another note - Kayleigh decided to put her new found skill to work this morning.  Here is how I found her in her crib when I went to get her:
I can't get enough of this kid!  She is so cute, funny, amazing, and simply adorable. I was looking at her on her playmat on Sunday afternoon as she swung her monkey around and yelled at it and I turned to Drew and said "I want to have lots of babies!"

A Letter to my Daughter

My Dear Sweet Kayleigh,

On Monday I stumbled upon a new song by Taylor Swift called Ronan.  I should have known better than to listen to it while at work after reading it was about a 4 year old boy that died from cancer. But, I listened anyway. And then I Google'd little Ronan to follow his story on a blog hosted by his mom.  I read about his life, his diagnosis, his fight, and eventually his loss to cancer. And I cried.

A year ago I am sure I would have felt sadden reading his story.  But now that you are here, I find that I can relate even more. I think about you and what a blessing you are to me and your daddy.  And now that you are here, I know that I can't imagine my life nor my future without you in it.  Even though I have no idea what the future holds for you, for us, for our family, I know I pray and hope that it's only the best possible.

After reading about Ronan I came home on Monday and I hugged you, I kissed you, I hugged you, and I kissed you again. And yesterday I did the same thing. And when I get home today, and tomorrow, and the day after, and for as long as I can, I am going to kiss you and hug you and simply love and appreciate you.  You are the best thing to ever happen to me, and I am going to make sure you know it every day of your life.

I love you baby girl,

Your Mommy

Half Way There!

Kayleigh turned 6 months this past Monday. She is half way to being a year old. She had her wellness exam today and she is doing great.  She weighed in at 14 lbs 1 oz and is 24 and a half inches long.  She is finally 2 feet tall! She isn't a fast growing baby and she is without a doubt going to by my little peanut for quite some time. She is in the 6th percentile for height, 14th for weight and 59th for her head size. Just two months ago she was only 7th percentile for weight so I am quite surprised she made such a jump.

She is officially a sitter. Although she still hasn't quite figured out that if she leans backwards there is nothing there to catch her. She is still working on being able to sit up from laying flat on her back. She can get up onto her hands and knees but she doesn't know what to do once she gets there.  Usually she just gets frustrated.  It's funny though - for a baby that hated tummy time she LOVES sleeping on her tummy. In fact she sleeps with her butt in the air half the time. It's too cute.  Since I'm still a paranoid mommy I always turn her Angel Care monitor on. Maybe by her 9 month appointment I will feel comfortable with her sleeping on her tummy and not need it anymore!

Here are a few pictures from her 6 month photo shoot. I am working on really improving my photography skills with my camera. I have as nice as camera as the photographers I pay for photos so I need to learn how to use it and save myself my money. I used natural light in these pictures and no flash. So when Kayleigh got excited and started waving her toy around it blurred. :-( I will keep practicing to figure out how to minimize that.

I love her sweet smiles!

Giggling and swinging her toy around...all the while blurring my picture!

She was having so much fun waving her toy around that I was surprised when I got this one. It cracks me up!

Such a gorgeous baby. We are so blessed!
